The Canon ETEF 12 Extension Tube is the distance from the back of the lens to the film surface, which means you can take photographs at shorter distances to the subject. Extension tubes are thus commonly used for macro photography and sometimes for close-up portraits.
Exposure compensation is not required when using the camera’s TTL metering system (it is required for handheld meters).
It is fully compatible with Canon EF lenses and not EF-S.
Extension Tube EF 12 is recommended for lenses with a focal length of 50mm and up.
The extension tubes have no optics. They are mounted in between the camera body and lens to create more distance between the lens and film plane. Moving the lens farther away from the film or CCD sensor in the camera forces the lens to focus much closer than normal. The greater the extension tube length, the closer the lens can focus.
It can be used singly or in combination with other extension rings to vary the reproduction ratio of lenses.
