Garmin Index Smart Scale (White)
Garmin Index Smart Scale (White)
Track your weight (and more)
Authorities agree — to maintain your weight at the proper level, it’s important to weigh yourself regularly. But if you’re really committed to a healthy lifestyle, there’s more to consider than just your weight. Body fat, muscle mass, and other metrics are important as well. The Garmin Index smart scale measures body mass index (BMI), body fat/water percentage, bone mass, and muscle mass, giving you a much more complete and well-rounded snapshot of your body than a conventional scale.
A connected solution
Index smart scale goes beyond just giving you numbers when you step on it. It uses your Wi-Fi® network or Bluetooth to automatically upload the data to your Garmin Connect™ account, so you can easily track your metrics over time, either through the Connect smartphone app or online. Index is an excellent complement to the variety of fitness wearables available from Garmin — giving you an easy way to see and record the results of your efforts, whether you’re a competitive athlete or taking the first steps towards a healthier lifestyle.
Features
Overview: The Garmin Index smart scale is an essential tool for helping you reach and maintain your health and fitness goals. Not only does it measure your weight, it can also calculate your body mass index (BMI), muscle mass, bone mass, body fat percentage, and water percentage. Index is compatible with Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), Bluetooth Smart, and ANT+ wireless connectivity, so your results can be transferred to your Garmin Connect account on your computer or mobile device. The smart scale operates on 4 "AA" batteries (supplied).
Bioelectrical Impedance: The Index smart scale uses bioelectrical impedance to calculate your body composition. When you step on the scales, a small amount of electrical current is sent from one foot through your body to the other foot. The electrical signal is measured after it passes through your body, and the device calculates your body composition.
Measurements: The Garmin Index will measure your weight up to a maximum of 400 pounds, as well as other aspects of your body composition. You can set the unit of measure to pounds, kilograms, or stones, using the switch on the bottom of the device. In order to achieve the highest level of accuracy, it is recommended that you use the device at approximately the same time each day, and under the same circumstances. Activities such as eating, drinking, exercising, bathing, or using a sauna, steam room, or hot tub will impact your body’s weight, hydration, and distribution of water. You should wait at least two hours after any of those activities before you weigh yourself. In addition to weight, the Index smart scale can calculate the following:
Body Mass Index (BMI): Body Mass Index is your weight in kilograms divided by your height in meters squared. BMI is used to estimate whether a person is underweight or overweight for their height.
Muscle Mass: the total amount of your weight attributed to muscle.
Bone Mass: the total amount of your weight attributed to bone.
Body Fat Percentage: the percentage of your total weight attributed to fat, included essential fat and storage body fat. Essential body fat is required for basic health.
Water Percentage: the percentage of your total weight attributed to fluid. This measurement can be used to indicate your level of hydration.
Garmin Connect Account: The Index smart scale will recognize up to 16 users, and each user must have their own Garmin Connect account. During setup, you will need to wirelessly connect the device to your computer or mobile device, and access your account. When you step on the scale, the user is automatically recognized based on weight and frequency of use, and their initials will appear on the display. You can manually change users by tapping the device until your initials are displayed.
Power Requirements: The Garmin Index is powered by 4 "AA" batteries. You can use alkaline, NiMH, lithium, or pre-charged NiMH. Only 1.5V batteries can be used. Typical battery life is approximately 9 months. When battery power is low, a Low Battery icon will appear in the display. Four "AA" alkaline batteries are included.
