Another feature that makes this a great buy is the built-in five-axis sensor stabilisation. When combined with compatible lenses, it activates Dual I.S. 2 that can correct for up to five stops of shutter speed. This makes the Panasonic DC-GH5 and 12-35mm F2.8 MkII kit a great choice for action photography, ensuring clear and accurate pictures regardless of the shooting conditions.
The 12-35mm F2.8 MkII lens features dust/dirt/moisture and freeze proof construction. It is built to last and designed to withstand any condition. It is the perfect companion to the Panasonic DC-GH5 body and gives photographer the versatility they need for both still photographs and video recording.
Upgraded, redesigned, and filled with features, the Panasonic DC-GH5 body provides an outstanding imaging platform for shooters who demand some of the best video and still photography quality they can get in a single compact camera. At the heart of the camera is a 20.3MP Digital Live MOS sensor and a newly developed Venus Engine processor and both offer dramatically improved processing times over its predecessor.
This allows users to record 4K video at up to 60 fps, 10-bit 4:2:2 internal recording with select settings, Full HD video at up to 180 fps, 12 fps continuous shooting, and sensitivities up to ISO 25600. The camera also features built-in five-axis sensor stabilisation, which can work with certain lenses to activate Dual I.S. 2 for highly effective shake correction that can compensate for up to 5 stops of shutter speed. Other improvements include a speedier and more accurate Advanced DFD autofocus system that can lock on in just 0.05 seconds, as well as 6K PHOTO at 30 fps and 4K PHOTO at up to 60 fps.
Along with all these internal improvements, the body received some significant upgrades as well. For viewing and composing images both the 0.76x OLED viewfinder and 3.2" free-angle touchscreen received resolution bumps to 3.68m dots and 1.62 m dots, respectively. This makes shooting more comfortable and more accurate. The magnesium alloy body is now freeze proof to -10°C, in addition to splash and dustproof. For fast image transfer and saving, there are now two UHS-II SD card slots. Additionally, for a completely wireless setup it offers both wi-Fi and Bluetooth and advanced functionality when paired with a mobile app.

20.3MP Digital Live MOS Sensor and Venus Engine
The newly developed 20.3MP Digital Live MOS sensor and a new Venus Engine processor, enables the GH5 to produce the best image quality to date from a Lumix camera. Using Multipixel Luminance Generation and Intelligent Detail Processing maximises sharpness and details, as well as accuracy, in a variety of lighting conditions. It offers excellent three-dimension colour control and precise noise reduction techniques for shooting at sensitivities up to ISO 25600. It also enables shooting speeds of up to 12 fps with AF-S or manual focus modes.
4K Video Recording
The GH5 is an exceptionally capable video camera in addition to its outstanding capabilities as a top-quality still camera. The flagship feature is UHD 4K video at up to 60 fps, though another excellent spec is the ability to record 4:2:2 10-bit files at resolutions up to DCI and UHD 4K at 24/30 fps. A full-size HDMI port is present on the camera for high-quality output at 4:2:2 10-bit in all settings for use with external monitors and recorders. The camera also offers high bit-rate recording for highly detailed images free from compression artefacts.
For advanced users, multiple picture styles are available and this provides a more gradable image, such as CINELIKE V and CINELIKE D, as well as an in-camera LUT to make monitoring easier. Users will also have access to over cranking and under cranking settings, which provides speeds up to 2.5x slower in 4K (60 fps) and 7.5x slower in Full HD (180 fps). Also, a 4K Anamorphic mode is available and this lets you record in a proper 4:3 ratio for adjustment in post-production.
The GH5 is an expandable system, with multiple options available to help improve video recording capabilities. Examples of this are an optional V-Log L upgrade and other accessories such as the XLR Microphone Adapter provides XLR inputs and physical controls through a hot shoe connection. Users can also use standard microphones and headphones via the 3.5mm input and output jacks. These extras allow users to continue to upgrade and improve the Panasonic DC-GH5 and get many years of use from the system without worrying about it becoming obsolete too soon.
6K and 4K PHOTO
Utilising the GH5’s video recording capabilities, a trio of still shooting modes are available for recording continuous 8MP stills at a 60 or 30 fps shooting rate or 18MP stills at a 30-fps shooting rate:
- Burst: Just as with video recording, this mode will allow you to continuously record for up to 29 min. 59 sec., making it ideal for instances where you need a fast frame rate in order to capture the best moment.
- Pre-Burst: This mode is ideal for times when you’re unsure of the critical moment to press the shutter button and will record images one second prior to and one second after pressing the shutter button in order to give you 60 frames to choose from.
- Burst (S/S): This mode most closely follows the video recording process, and allows you to playback your video, pause at the chosen moment, and use the shutter button to mark a chosen frame from the video and save it as a single 8 or 18 MP frame.
Dual I.S. 2
Helping to achieve the utmost sharpness when photographing handheld, Dual I.S. 2 combines the GH5’s sensor-shift image stabilisation technology with lens-based image stabilisation to compensate for a broader range of movement types to render sharper, clearer imagery. Dual I.S. 2 requires the use of compatible Lumix lenses featuring O.I.S. This stabilisation system is able to compensate for approximately five stops of camera shake.

Technology Ported from the NTG5
The VideoMic NTG’s body features acoustic perforations rather than the linear slots traditionally used in shotgun microphones. This annular line tube technology was ported from Rode’s NTG5 to deliver transparency and a natural, uncoloured sound.
Directional Sound Pickup
The VideoMic NTG utilizes a supercardioid polar pattern to focus on sound in front of it while attenuating sound from the sides and rear. Its low-noise electronics and sensitive condenser element deliver more detailed audio than the mics typically found in cameras and portable recorders. Since it is even more sensitive than the VideoMic Pro+ model, it requires less gain to achieve an equivalent signal level.
Bass Roll-Off and Treble Boost
The high-pass filter can be set to 75 Hz or 150 Hz to roll off low-frequency noise from common sources such as air conditioners and traffic. Rode also outfitted the VideoMic NTG with a selectable high-frequency boost, which enhances detail and clarity in the treble range for clear intelligible recordings.
-20 dB Pad and Continuously Variable Gain
To enable effortless optimization of recording levels for any device, the VideoMic NTG boasts a continuously variable gain control and a helpful audio peak warning light. Whether you need mic level, line level, headphone level, or something in between, the right level is available at the turn of a knob. Press the dedicated button for the -20 dB pad to quickly lower the level when loud sound sources threaten to distort your recording.
Selectable Safety Channel
By pressing the dedicated safety channel button, you can set the mic’s right channel to output 20 dB lower than the left channel. This lets you record a safety channel and the main signal to your camera at the same time.
24-bit / 48 kHz USB Microphone Functionality
Plug the VideoMic NTG into your computer, smartphone, or tablet via USB to use it as a digital USB microphone for direct recording to your favorite software. Its integrated analog-to-digital converter operates at 24-bit / 48 kHz to provide full-resolution, uncompressed audio quality.
Convenient Headphone Monitoring
When using the VideoMic NTG as a USB microphone, plug your headphones into its 3.5mm output for convenient stereo headphone monitoring. Control the headphone volume via the gain knob on the bottom of the mic.
Extensive Device Compatibility
The VideoMic NTG’s auto-sensing 3.5mm TRRS output automatically switches between TRS and TRRS as necessary, so you won’t need additional adapter cables. The 3.5mm jack is wired in a dual-mono configuration, ensuring that the mic signal is sent identically to both input channels of your recording device.
Internal Rechargeable 30-Hour Battery & Manual or Automatic Power On/Off
The internal rechargeable lithium-ion battery offers up to 30 hours of run time and recharges via USB Type-C in about two hours. Since the VideoMic NTG can be charged while you use it, you can even simultaneously power and charge it with a USB battery pack.
When connected to the mic input of a compatible camera, the VideoMic NTG automatically turns on or off in response to the presence or absence of plug-in power. As you’d expect, the mic shuts off when it detects a loss in power, either from powering off or disconnecting the camera. Plus, there is a power button for manually turning the mic on or off.
Windscreen & Shockmount included
The VideoMic NTG includes a foam windscreen to minimize unwanted wind noise from light breezes, fans, heaters, and air conditioners. For maximum reduction of wind noise in outdoor environments, consider a furry windshield such as the optional Rode WS-11.
Rode built the VideoMic NTG with a rugged Rycote Lyre suspension-style shockmount designed for attachment to a camera or boompole. This simplifies setup of the mic and inhibits the transfer of vibrations from the camera. The shockmount’s sliding rail system lets shift the position of the mic forward or backward for perfect placement.
