The Nikon Nikkor Ai-s 300mm F4.5 with Tripod Mount S/N – 562660 is like all classic Nikon lenses, it is constructed and designed with precision. It has Nikon’s NIC (Nikon Integrated Coating) multi-coating for excellent colour and contrast.
This 300mm Nikkor lens was produced from 1981 onwards. The aperture is 7-bladed. It has a rotating, locking, non-removable lens collar that is excellent for balancing on a tripod. It has a permanent telescoping lens shade.
This is a popular lens. It works extremely well on the newest full-frame DSLRs. It has great colour, great contrast, no flare, ghosts, distortion, colour fringes and is very sharp. The minimum focus is 13.3 feet (3.5 meters). Has a depth of field scale and Infrared Focus index. It has a hard infinity stop, making it ideal for astronomical use.
It will not couple well to the cheaper Nikon digital (D80 and below) and cheaper film cameras (F80 and below). It works perfectly for every professional film camera (F, F2, F3, F4, F5, F6), with Matrix metering on the FA, F4 and F6. If used on a Nikon DX camera it gives you an angle of view similar to a 450mm lens.
