This near-mint pre-owned Nikon 500mm f8 Reflex-Nikkor-C Lens is a prime lens designed in the Nikon F Non-AI lens mount. It is appropriate for cameras without an Auto Indexing (AI tab), such as the

Nikon F, some F2 bodies, some Nikkormats, and some Nikon digital cameras.

Mirror lenses are extremely compact because rather than having a series of glass optics to achieve its focal length, they use mirrors. These lenses have fixed apertures and create a unique out-of-focus area due to the lens having a mirror in its centre.

This design is called “catadioptric”, which bounces light twice inside the lens. The goal of the designers was to make a telephoto lens that was as small and light as possible. This is essentially the same optical design as the Hubble telescope. The lens focuses down to 13 feet (just under 4 metres), and it weighs 2.2 pounds (1 kg). The manual focus rotates smoothly. The “C” in the lens name indicates that the optics are fully multi-coated.
