Zeiss Biogon 35mm f/2.0 ZM Leica M Silver

Positioned as an all-around versatile lens for general shooting applications, the ZEISS – BIOGON 35mm f/2.0 ZM – Leica M – Silver is a flexible wide-angle prime for M-mount rangefinder cameras. Using a Biogon optical concept, along with one anomalous partial dispersion element, distortion is virtually eliminated and chromatic aberrations and color fringing are well-controlled for clean, realistic image quality. A T* anti-reflective coating has also been applied to minimize lens flare and ghosting, and, additionally, the lens’s manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 70cm away.

The ZEISS Biogon T* 2/35 ZM is the fastest lens in the Biogon family. It offers outstanding performance, distortion-free images, and the fast f/2 aperture permits handheld photography under difficult lighting conditions. When stopped down, the lens accurately captures the smallest details, yielding images with very good contrast and ‘sparkle’. The ZEISS Biogon T* 2/35 ZM is a favorite of photojournalists and an all-around outstanding performer for almost any application.

This moderate wide-angle focal length is one of the most popular lenses for rangefinder photography offering exceptional performance in low-light situations.

Key Features of the ZEISS – BIOGON 35mm f/2.0 ZM – Leica M – Silver

  • Biogon optical concept benefits the wide-angle focal length by helping to virtually eliminate distortion for clean, realistic rendering.
  • One anomalous partial dispersion element reduces chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved color accuracy and clarity.
  • Zeiss T* anti-reflective coatings have been applied to each lens surface to help minimize reflections to provide greater image clarity, contrast, and color fidelity.
  • Manual focus design enables a minimum focusing distance of 70cm.

Smooth, Precise Focusing

Manually focusing a lens means controlling the image result from your fingertips. The good ergonomic design makes all the difference. The user-friendly focusing ring and ergonomic finger rest are perfect for fast, precise focusing. Changes are immediately visible in the viewfinder. The high-quality focusing mechanism moves smoothly without play, thus also supporting the intuitive interaction with the focal plane.

The Ideal Aperture

ZM lenses feature ten aperture blades. The almost circular aperture helps to create a particularly harmonious effect in the out-of-focus areas of the picture (bokeh).

ZEISS T* anti-reflective coating

The optical elements of ZEISS lenses feature T* anti-reflective coating on all surfaces and an optical design that guarantees images of superior brilliance at all times, even in unfavorable lighting conditions. Zeiss applies the anti-reflective coating to the lens surfaces by the vapor deposition of extremely thin, transparent layers on the glass. In this process, special substances are vaporized with extremely high energy in a high-vacuum environment and are subsequently deposited on the glass surfaces, one after another, as layers with precisely controlled thicknesses to achieve the desired reduction of reflective properties. The first coating techniques were employed by ZEISS as long ago as in the 1930s.

Robust design

The mount and control elements of all ZM lenses are made of metal and are designed for decades of intensive use. The high-quality craftsmanship of the all-metal mounts, the easy-to-grip metal focus and aperture ring, and the robust front bayonet and filter threads ensure an amazing photographic experience.

Biogon Optics

The largely symmetrical Biogon optical design enables the creation of very compact moderate to extremely wide-angle lenses, which feature exceptionally good distortion correction, chromatic properties, and image field flattening.
